Cutting for Stone

Cutting for Stone is the one of the best novels I have ever read, and I am recommending it to you.  The characters and the settings are beautifully developed and the prose is poetic.  Don’t expect to read this one in a couple of days.  It took me almost two weeks, and I didn’t want it to end.

Much of the story takes place in the operating rooms of India, Ethiopia, and the United States ghetto.  None of which I have any experience or original interest.  Yet, the story is internally captivating and grabbed hold of my core by page 3.  Read the rest of this entry »

My Happiness Project

Inspired by The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin and Good Life Project by Jonathan Fields, I am focusing on one small act or intention that I would like to amplify in my life.  After contemplating this, and borrowing their words, I realized I already have a Happiness Project and Good Life Project, and I have coined it A Life of Plenty.  Now to just define it more clearly to myself.  This is my effort.

A note to readers:  This is a dynamic posting and will be edited to reflect my monthly intentions.

The Significance of 11.11.11

I find it fascinating to read about the numerological significance of 11.11.11. And, I believe the true significance of 11.11.11 is the same as yesterday, and the same as tomorrow.

No one day is less or more significant than the others. For me, today is a day of mindfulness, an awareness of the ordinary miracles every day. Read the rest of this entry »

Are you ready to raise your life-level?

I am privileged and honored to work with the participants in Drug Court of Franklin County on the topics of mindful living and conscious parenting. Last night was our first workshop - “The Power Within You…to Heal Your Life.” I share my notes with you because I discovered they are not different than you and me. They are dealing with the same issues as my friends, and my family. And probably even more significantly, they have the same dreams for life as you and me. It was never more poignant that we are all learning the same life lessons, just through different circumstances. The goal is to raise our consciousness to a greater awareness of our lessons.

In honor of Aunt Bonnie | A Purposeful Life

I am honored to have been asked to write this eulogy.  That may seem strange, and I believe that is why I was asked.  I tend to think differently.  I find good in all things because I believe all things are good.  And so you ask, “How are the circumstances for which we are here good?”  For Aunt Bonnie, she is peace.  For us, this is an opportunity to edit our lives.  It is in these occasions that we understand death is the seed of new life. Spread Peace, Love & Laughter

Spread LoveCan you guess whose life purpose this is:    To Spread Love & Laughter?  This could be the purpose of a priest who adds comic relief with a ventriloquist show for children at the end of each mass.  This could be the purpose of a circus clown of Cirque du Soleil.  Or, this could be the purpose of a stay-at-home mom of three.  It is not what you do; it is how you do it that matters.  This is your individual contribution to the world.  This is the cool thing:  you get to give your life its meaning – not me, not your children, all you.  You get the privilege to create the meaning in your life, to find the sacred in the ordinary.   Read the rest of this entry »

Less to Need and More to Be – Part II

I am using a comment from the tribe to springboard more depth into yesterday’s blog post, Conscious Parenting | The Call to Raise Yourself.

Michelle,
I have been very happy to see your blog and watch it’s growth. I have sent several people to it over the last couple of weeks. I think you have really found something that suits you and that you have a gift for.  I wanted to share a bit of my experience and thoughts about Maslow’s work.  I find his work compelling but I feel it leaves out a lot of what makes us human.  Read the rest of this entry »

Mindfulness by Emily

As I wrap up this day, I decided to tie a bow on and share it with you.  Today was a day of all important and non-urgent matters. Here is a snapshot of living in the flow – happiness now and a clear vision for the future.  You know when you experience it…contentment, joy, peace. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s a Journey, Not a Race

Reviewing my journal, I realize how far I have come. I thought I would share this exerpt with you as a follow-up to Peaceful Bedtime | Purposeful Life.  I am here to offer you hope and inspiration.  If you find yourself running the rat race, you can choose a new course.  You can have peace and happiness without doing it all, buying it all, and consuming it all.  It only takes small incremental changes today to make a significant difference in tomorrow.
