Meditation with Thay

My greatest challenge is being present for the gifts of the moments, allowing what the moment is offering, open to receiving all God has for me.

My first meditation with Thich Nhat Hanh, fondly referred to as Thay by his students, speaks to my heart.

We can smile, breathe, walk, and eat our meals in a way that allows us to be in touch with the abundance of happiness that is available.  We are very good at preparing to live, but not very good at living.  We know how to sacrifice ten years for a diploma, and we are willing to work very hard to get a job, a car, a house, and so on.  But we have difficutly remembering that we are alive in the present moment, the only moment there is for us to be alive.  Every breath we take, every step we make, can be filled with peace, joy, and serenity. 

We need only to be awake, alive in the present moment.

 

Mindfulness – Concentration – Insight. This is the energy of the Holy Spirit. It is within us and available to us at anytime.

Living Budda, Living Christ is the essence of being in the state of mindfulness, concentration, and insight.

The Kingdom of God is Earth. It is not an idea, not a place in the sky, not some place to get to. We are here, now. We are walking in the Kingdom of God.   Heaven is the  understanding of our Oneness.

With this perspective, we honor and respect her. We cause no harm, have no greed, anger or fear. With each step, we are aware we are in the Kingdom of God. We see the beauty of a single flower, the majesty of the mountains, the innocence of a child.

Here and Now – neither the fear of the past nor the fear of the future. Not regretting the past or anxiety for the future. Of course I have time to smell the roses; I am walking in the Kingdom of God.

I am not learning to live with my fears, but living a fear-less life.

Breathe. I am free.
